Telepsychiatry | WellMinded Health
Starting psychiatric care can feel uncertain, especially when it’s happening from your living room instead of a waiting room. Here’s what to actually expect, so you can walk in prepared instead of guessing.
What telepsychiatry really is
It’s a full clinical appointment, evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management, delivered over a secure video platform instead of in person. Your provider covers the same ground either way: medical history, symptoms, goals, and a treatment plan when appropriate. The only real difference is the screen. At WellMinded Health, both virtual and in-person visits are available, so you can pick what actually fits your life.
Before your appointment

A few minutes of prep goes a long way:
Medical history — past diagnoses, hospitalizations, or treatment
Current medications — including dosages and supplements
A private, quiet space — headphones help if privacy is limited
A stable connection — test it beforehand, Wi-Fi if possible
Insurance card — handy in case it’s needed at check-in
What the first session actually covers
This is an intake, not a rush to a prescription. Expect your provider to ask about why you’re reaching out now, how long you’ve noticed symptoms, family mental health history, sleep and appetite, and what’s currently stressing your day-to-day life.
Most of the session is your provider listening, not talking.
Will you get a diagnosis on day one?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no, and both are completely normal. Straightforward presentations like moderate depression or generalized anxiety can often get a working diagnosis in the first session. More complex or overlapping symptoms might take an extra session to get right, which isn’t a delay, it’s just being thorough.
Does insurance cover it in Florida?
In most cases, yes. Florida requires most plans to cover telehealth at the same level as in-person visits. WellMinded Health accepts UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Florida Blue, Oscar Health, and Medicare Advantage plans, among others, though it’s always worth confirming your specific benefits before your visit. Private-pay is also available.
What we treat

Anxiety and panic disorders, depression, adult ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, work-related stress and burnout, and psychotic disorders. If you’re not sure your concern qualifies, booking an evaluation is the safest way to find out.
After your first visit
You’ll leave with a clear next step, whether that’s a follow-up, a medication discussion, or a therapy referral. Nothing is decided or committed to in the first session. The goal is shared understanding between you and your provider.
